In 2022, the composer's letters were made public, among which there was confirmation that the composer had intended to make an orchestral suite on the theme of his own opera Turandot. This is understandable, because the opera turned out to be very, very beautiful. The composer died two years before the opera's premiere, however, before he had time to finish it.
The first performance took place on April 25, 1926 in Milan. Puccini died in 1924 before the opera could be completed, and subsequently all performances of Turandot ended with a final duet and finale written by Franco Alfano from the author's drafts. However, this version of the opera's ending is not the only one. Composers Luciano Berio (premiere in 2002, conducted by V. Gergiev) and Hao Weiya (premiere in 2008) have also proposed their own versions.
Symphonic Fantasy on the theme of Puccini's opera Turandot written by composer and conductor Taras Kutsenko was recorded by the Zhangjiajie Philharmonic Orchestra in 2024. The ZPO Orchestra is already known as a collective involved in laboratory and research activities. In collaboration with producer Alex Sino (Record lable Pier 5), the orchestra has numerous audio recordings of crossover music. For example, a performance of the Romantic Symphonies by Bizet and Gounod in Leonardo Bernstein's edition, which are submitted for voting to the GRAMMY® Academicians in 2024. In further plans of the collective, recording of new albums with rarely performed music of classical direction and crossover.
On November 29, the entire musical world will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the death of the great Italian opera composer Giacomo Puccini.
